Curves and Cavities: the Fold-in Method as a Versatile Tool for Synthesizing Complex Aromatics

The fold-in method, introduced by our group, enables the synthesis of aromatic molecules characterized by all types of curvature.[1,2] Many of these systems have large macrocyclic openings and are interesting objects for supramolecular chemistry.[3] In this project we want to use the fold-in method to develop new classes of chromophores and receptors characterized by bowl-like, cylindrical, and hyperbolic curvatures, as well as coronoid systems with extended peripheral fusion. We look for highly motivated researchers (one post-doc and two PhD students), with strong skills in organic synthesis of aromatic systems.

Post-docs and PhD students:

  1. Multistep organic synthesis, including microscale work, and inert-atmosphere procedures.
  2. Design and planning of complex synthetic sequences
  3. Aromatic/functional dye chemistry
  4. Spectroscopic methods, with particular emphasis on NMR spectroscopy
  5. Fluency in English

Post-docs (additionally):

  1. Record of providing supervision to graduate/undergraduate students
  2. Hands-on experience with automated chromatography systems, especially GPC
  3. Knowledge of the current project-related literature

Positions available

  • 1 Post-doc: up to 36 months, gross salary 120 000 PLN / year (net ca. 5 500 PLN / month + bonus each year)
  • 2 PhD positions: up to 36 months each, scholarship 4500 PLN / month (tax-exempt)
