Functional AromaticS

Stępień Lab

University of Wrocław, Poland

Aromatic compounds are fundamentally important in nearly all areas of organic chemistry.
In industry, they are used as colorants, semiconducting materials, catalysts, and drugs.

In our curiosity-inspired research, we try to make new aromatic hydrocarbons and heterocycles with unprecedented structures and properties. We are especially interested in molecules containing unusually fused rings, curved surfaces, and cavities. They are notable for their physical and chemical characteristics, such as absorption, fluorescence, or chirality.

Our group, as diverse as the molecules we are making, is based at the University of Wrocław, Poland.

Some of our molecules are featured in unusual places.
